It's Only Me
Backstory
Growing up I never went out and saw bands – I'd much prefer staying at home and listening on headphones to really excellent studio recordings as an internal experience. When I started playing music, I had absolutely no desire to perform live. Great painters don’t create masterpieces on stage in front of 10,000 people. I’ve always found the studio to be a real sanctuary where I have a sense of who I really am. This song came out one day while I was sitting alone in the mountains in a forest.
Lyrics
Sorry, I’m not going to jump around the stage Caressing a microphone stand Be blinded by lights, have my hearing destroyed Or be broken by pointless demands. I don’t need speakers stacked to the sky Exploding a bland wall of noise I take no delight in the thought or the sight Of a room full of robots and toys. It’s only me Volume and tone It’s only me Standing alone It’s only me Here in my dome It’s only me It’s only me And all that I’ve known It’s only me Muscle and bone It’s only me clone upon clone It’s only meeee…..eeeee… It’s only meeeeeeeeee I much prefer to record on my own Perform in my own studio Sequestered away with headphones on Mixing in wide stereo The quiet relief of a soundproof room And hearing the details in sound It’s such a delight alone where I write About all of the things that I’ve found It’s only me Volume and tone It’s only me Standing alone It’s only me Here in my dome It’s only me It’s only me And all that I’ve known It’s only me Muscle and bone It’s only me clone upon clone It’s only meeee…..eeeee… It’s only meeeeeeeeee It’s only meeee It’s only meeee It’s only meeee It’s only meeee…
