The Lady of The Wood
Backstory
This is a good song written originally around 1981 for a really dumb reason - which is why it never got recorded. I was infatuated with my bosses partner who used to visit where we worked. I visited them occasionally & I would just sit there in awe of her. I don't even remember her name or what she look like but - I have the song! I remember being completely infatuated with a fantasy of running away with her into the woods. All I had were the lyrics and the chords so today I quickly recorded a rough guitar & vocals for this brilliant Suno upgrade.
Lyrics
A single bird was singing as it slowly drifted by Golden sunlight filtered down through trees that touched the sky Dancing with the browning leaves that carpeted the path Carried with the wind that tickled life and made it laugh. Far off in the distance where the ferns stood straight and tall The mist was painting rainbows beneath the waterfall That thundered from the clifftops onto the rocks below Echoing across the woods the power of its flow. As I approached I saw her there sitting by the stream My heart was beating faster, my mind spun in a dream She turned and looked towards me as if she understood And bid me sit beside her, the lady of the wood. We crossed the stream and wandered through the forest in the shade Stopping for a while to watch the squirrels as they played And as we walked we talked of life and living in the trees “Oh to be a bird” I said, “and float upon the breeze.” “Well” she said, “just take my hand and fly with me my friend Close your eyes and free your mind and let your thoughts ascend”. I gazed at her in disbelief but something in her eyes Told me that she knew the secrets of the crystal skies. I offered up my hand to her and smiled to the sun Closed my eyes and felt her near me somehow we were one Never in my life before had I ever felt this good The day that I went flying with, the lady of the wood. Turning skyward moving slightly through the trees we flew Following the rocky ridge to places no one knew The sunset ‘cross the forest looked so mighty and so proud Especially when watching it while dancing on a cloud. We rode that cloud into the dark until the moon shone bright And then descended to a clearing somewhere in the night The flames were reaching higher as we lay beside the fire An age old feeling passed between us filled with deep desire. And there we lay and watched the stars come falling from the sky Singing songs and making love ‘til sleep fell with a sigh But as the dawn awakened me I looked to where she stood With just a smile, she flew away, the lady of the wood. The lady of the wood, (The lady of the wood) The lady of the wood, (The lady of the wood) The lady of the wood.
