(I Love) The Office
Backstory
When I left school, I worked in a bank for 18 months - then five years later I worked for an audiovisual company for two years in a very conventional office and it was during that phase that I wrote this Office song as well as another song called Attic Dreamer. I was just amazed how regulated, straight, boring, repetitive and mundane it was – and how they were always coming up with new ways to try and make it interesting – which always failed – talking about mind-numbing subjects.
Lyrics
Hello good morning, hello how are you I think the milk is sour How was your weekend, the mail just came There is a meeting in an hour Dr Jones called and said he'd call back Your Cocker Spaniel had a pup The coffee just boiled and we've got biscuits Would you be ready for a cup? I love the office It's so rewarding It keeps me busy all day through I have my own desk Under the neons And I take lunch from 1 'til 2 There's so much to do! [Pause] I love the office don't you? (Don't you?) Hello good morning, hello how are you Was the traffic bad? Did you park near or round the corner? The meters really drive you mad That plant is dying, did you watch TV Somebody stole my pen! Can you sign these and take a call please? It could be Dr Jones again! I love the office It's so rewarding It keeps me busy all day through I have my own desk Under the neons And I take lunch from 1 'til 2 There's so much to do! I love the office don't you? (Don't you?) I love the office It's so rewarding It keeps me busy all day through I have my own desk Under the neons And I take lunch from 1 'til 2 There's so much to do! I love the office don't you?
